The Douglas Utting Award

The Douglas Utting Award is offered annually to an individual, working in Canada, who has made a significant contribution to the study, understanding or treatment of depressive disorders.

The Award consists of a medal and a certificate together with an honorarium of $7,500 CDN and will be presented during the autumn in Montreal.

This year’s winner is Dr. Michael Myers, director of the Marital Therapy Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C., and Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the UBC Faculty of Medicine. He is probably the leading Canadian educator and advocate regarding physician depression and suicide and has produced When Physicians Commit Suicide: Reflections of Those They Leave Behind, a videotape that won the 1999 American Psychiatric Association Psychiatric Services Award.

Le prix Douglas Utting est attribué annuellement à une personne travaillant au Canada, et qui aura apporté une contribution majeure à la recherche, à la compréhension ou au traitement des troubles dépressifs.

Le prix Douglas Utting consiste en une médaille et un certificat, ainsi qu’un montant de 7 500,00 $ canadiens, remis à l’automne, à Montréal.

Il est un des éducateurs canadiens le plus reconnu pour sa recherche sur la dépression et le suicide chez les médecins. En 1999, il a produit le vidéo When Physicians Commit Suicide : Reflections of Those They Leave Behind pour lequel il a reçu le Psychiatric Services Award, prix remis par l’American Psychiatric Association.
