CPA Statement Re: Sexual Misconduct

This position paper has been officially de-listed as a current position paper of the Canadian Psychiatric Association as it no longer reflects the views of the Association. It will, however, continue to be available in consideration of the historical significance that it may have.

That the Canadian Psychiatric Association emphatically reaffirms its resolute policy that sexual relationship in all its forms between a psychiatrist (as with all physicians), and his/her patient is a grave violation and abuse, on the part of the psychiatrist (as with all physicians), of the patient/doctor relationship. Further, the Canadian Psychiatric Association unequivocally condemns such misconduct and deems it totally unacceptable under any and all circumstances.
